What would be your decision to the proposal of allowing the film company to use the island for 6 months?
I'm against the proposals as Ynys Llanddwyn is very close to my land. Some of my special Soay sheep graze near the chapel on this island. The noise from the filming process will disturb the animals.
Ynys Llanddwyn is a magical place and an ideal picnic site. I enjoy relaxing on the peaceful quiet island and listening and seeing the wildlife. There are also excellent views of Snowdonia and the Lleyn Peninsula from the island. During the filming period I will not be able to do this.
Ynys Llanddwyn is part of the Newborough Warren National Nature Reserve. The dunes, mudflats and saltmarshes of the reserve support a wide range of plants and invertebrates such as bluebells and yellow poppies.
The cliffs around the island support a wide variety of nesting seabirds, including cormorants, shags and oystercatchers. Ynys yr Adar (Bird Rock), a small islet off the tip of Llanddwyn, throngs during the spring with one percent of the total British breeding population of cormorants. Waders such as turnstones and sandpipers are found along the coast and terns can be seen fishing in the bay.
This is an excellent proposal because it will not only boost the local economy during the filming period but also help the local economy in the long term by attracting tourists the island.
During the filming there will be no access to the footpaths on the island. The lorries carrying filming equipment will erode the footpaths and destroy wildlife habitats.
The film crew will destroy the peaceful, tranquility environment of the island and fewer pilgrims will visit.
This will make Ynys Llanddwyn and neighbouring area, especially Newborough famous and will attract many local and even visitors from every part of the world! The local economy will also benefit during the filming period.
